Trouble Shooting

Occasionally, Network Menus can go awry. Although we have thoroughly tested Network Menus, the potential uses of the application are sufficiently diverse that it is next to impossible to diagnose every possible eventuality. If you find that this section does not fulfil your request, please do e-mail us at helpdesk@network.ltd.uk, and we will be happy to investigate your problem.

5.1 Run-time error 374, Debug Association Failed and friends

Sometimes when you perform a Network Menus upgrade, there are existing Internet Explorer and Network Browser windows open. Although you may have removed all visible records of these programs, they may still be running in the background. If you try and then upgrade, the installer cannot replace all of the components, and so you will receive these error messages. The solution is to try re-installing Network Menus. Try using the new version to begin with. If the problem persists after a second installation, either try the following, or if you’d prefer, reboot your computer:
  1. Hold down Ctrl and Alt and press Del.
  2. If you are using Windows NT, click “Task Manager” if you are using Windows 95/98/ME, you should already be within the Task Manager.
  3. Look for any processes, images or tasks (different windows versions name the same objects in different ways) that are named “iexplore.exe”.
  4. Click the “End Process” or “End Task” button, and click “Yes” to any dialogue warning of potential problems regarding terminating a process.
  5. Repeat for all instances of “InetConnexion.exe”, a component of Network Menus that connects across the Internet.
  6. Repeat for the instance of “MenusCommunicator.exe”. (Incidentally, if there are several instances of “MenusCommunicator.exe”, this is a bug in itself; please report it!)
  7. Now try the installation wizard again; all your problems should now be resolved.
Note that there may not be any instances of any particular process listed. It is quite rare, for example, to find remaining InetConnexion.exe instances, unless Network Menus has encountered a problem with the network and run into difficulties. If you are still stuck, e-mail us. (helpdesk@network.ltd.uk)

5.2 Menus returned in “Common Menus” are different from those in “My Menus”

Network Menus relies on a good quality Internet connexion to function properly. Flaky connexions can cause synchronisation to be lost between the server and your computer. It could be that you have performed certain operations on your computer that have not been reflected with the server. It could also be that you are confused by two different menus which are similar in content, but different. This is often caused when someone copies your menu, and alters it slightly. Either way, it is possible to recover your menus from the server. Simply:
  1. Click the “Options” Menu,
  2. Select “Synchronise With Server” from the “Advanced” Menu, and your menus will be restored.

5.3 Run-time error 50003

This particular error is something of a catch-all error that can cover a multitude of problems. If you receive this error, it could be due to one of the following:
  • Network Menus requires a 256-colour (or better) display. If you have your display set to fewer than 256 colours (e.g. 2- or 16-colour mode) then you may see this error.
  • One or more libraries (DLLs) may be outdated or missing from your system. Try re-installing Network Menus and try again. Note that if you have the upgrade package, download and instal the Full (or "First Instal") version as the libraries are not supplied with the upgrade version.
